Discovery of a young planet nested in the gap of a transitional disk

Since a long time astronomers suspected gaps and ring-like structures in disks surrounding young stars as signs of ongoing planet formation. SPHERE Unveils its First Exoplanet

A young and warm giant planet has been identified around the star HIP 65426. It lies at a projected distance of 92 astronomical units from the host star and its estimated mass is about 6 to 12 times that of Jupiter.
